Florida Tops Nation for Most Dangerous Intersections, New Study Finds

MIAMI, Florida (FLAN 35) — Florida has been ranked as the state with the most dangerous intersections in America, according to a new December 2025 traffic safety study analyzing fatal crashes nationwide.

The research, conducted by Law Bear using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reviewed fatal intersection crashes across all 50 states over a five-year period from 2019 to 2023. States were ranked based on the total number of deadly crashes occurring at intersections — areas where vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists frequently cross paths.

Florida ranked first with 10,017 fatal crashes at intersections during the study period. That averages out to nearly five deadly intersection crashes every day. The most dangerous intersection in the state was identified as U.S. 441 and 35th Street in Miramar, where multiple crashes involved as many as 12 vehicles.

California ranked second with 8,404 fatal intersection crashes, followed by Texas with 7,818. Georgia and Illinois rounded out the top five.

Safety experts say Florida’s heavy traffic, tourism, and year-round travel contribute to higher crash risks, especially during peak holiday periods. Intersections become particularly dangerous as drivers rush, rely heavily on GPS navigation, or drive in unfamiliar areas.

A spokesperson for Law Bear urged drivers to slow down and stay alert at intersections, emphasizing complete stops, double-checking for oncoming traffic, and avoiding distractions.

FLAN 35 will continue monitoring traffic safety trends across Florida and South Florida as travel increases statewide.
